I have been thinking a lot about being happy and what that really means.
There are many Definitions of being happy.
Happy by Definition-
hap·py [ háppee ] . feeling pleasure: feeling or showing pleasure, contentment, or joy. causing pleasure: causing or characterized by pleasure, contentment, or joy satisfied: feeling satisfied that something is right or has been done right
The third part of the Definition is what caught my eye. Satisfied-Are we ever really satisfied? Or are we always looking for more? There are several different ways we can look at people and if they are truly satisfied.
First- the people who just are plain not happy with what they have and are always moaning that everyone else has what they want. More money, a bigger house, a newer car, going on the vacations they want to go on. These people are sad. They have missed a great deal by always looking for what could make them happy and not finding it because someone always has more.
Second- the people who are happy with just enough. Meaning they don’t have the newest of everything and take time to actually enjoy the things in life that don’t cost money. A backyard BBQ and a friendly chat are what make them happy. These people go to bed just being grateful for what they have.
Third- the people who have had more than enough but their lifestyle is not really what they wanted or needed or ”made the Happy”. These people have had the big salary, company car, vacations in exotic places, big houses. They spent what they had and more. These people realize that their life wasn’t satisfying because it was phony. The people they called friends weren’t real friends they were only around for the money. There are people who still do have all these things and can be happy if they live within their means and it really does bring the satisfaction. Remember there are some who look at all of this as just material things that don’t bring true happiness.
What I am trying to say is make the best of your situation. Don’t always be looking at what you don’t have and not trying for the things you want in life. There is always going to be someone out there that has more. Enjoy your family and the things that bring you true happiness.
The motto I try and live my life by is “Enjoy the Journey.”
