When I was at the 2014 Snap Conference, Kelli and I ran across this new company that just launched called Wallternatives™. They make wall decals, but not just any wall decals. They have several different kinds of decals to choose from. One of their products is Chalk talk which are wall decals you can put on your wall and write on with chalk!!! TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!! Next they have designer decals, which are sooo cute and different from the vinyl lettering we have become accustomed to in people's houses. Also they have wallappeals, which is removable wallpaper!!! Finally some wallpaper that is easy to apply and remove!!! Their last product is wallprints, which you can apply and reapply as needed. This is awesome for kids that want to play or adults that can't figure out where to hang the decals. :)
After looking at all the different wall decals they have available, I decided to test them out and see if their products really work. I chose to test out their chalk talk and write about my experience.

First I selected the decal I wanted. My kids ask me every night, "What are we doing tomorrow?" I then go through the next days activities so they know what they can look forward to the next day. When I was looking over the Wallternative's Website I found this "Menu du Tour" chalk decal and thought, "This will be perfect next to my kids bedroom. I could write on there what we are doing the next day so my kids always know the days' activities."
Next I made sure the dimensions of the decal would fit the wall space that I wanted to put the decal on. Thankfully everything worked out. The only issue I thought I would run into was the wall I wanted to put the decal on is not smooth. It has some texture on it, so I was a little worried.

When I got the wall decal, I made sure the wall I was going to apply the decal on was clean and dry. I didn't want to put a wall decal on a dirty wall. :) Then I laid out the decal. The decal has two sides on paper on it. One side you need to remove in order to stick the decal on the wall then you remove the other side very carefully in order to have the decal stick to the wall. I found the easiest way to remove the first side a paper was to place the decal on the floor with the "Menu du Jour" facing the floor. Then I placed my foot on the paper the decal was stuck to and slowly removed the 1st paper. I did this slowly so I didn't accidentally take the decal off with the paper I was removing.
Then I measured where exactly I wanted the decal to go on the wall and placed the sticky paper with the decal on the wall.
A few years ago a friend told me that the best way to get vinyl decals to stick to your wall was to stick the decal on and then get a credit card and slowly remove the sticky paper by placing the credit card on the paper side and push down on the decal as you roll the paper off the decal. This would help keep the decal on the wall instead of having it stick on the sticky paper. This actually worked great!
The finished product looked great on my wall, but I was skeptical that the chalk would actually work.
My kids love chalk so I grabbed one of their chalk buckets and thought about what we were doing for the day. Splash Pad!!! We were going to go to the Splash Pad today!!! So I got the chalk and wrote "Spash Pad" on the decal.
Next, It was time for the real test. I grabbed a tissue and started to erase the words "Splash Pad" from the decal and HOLLY HANNA!!!! It worked!!!! As you can see... the words, "Splash Pad" are totally gone from the decal!!!!! I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy with this product!!!!! Also, if you notice the decal even worked on my textured wall!!!! Now the only problem I will have is deciding which decal to purchase next! :)
