Morning Power Juice

2/17/2015

Picture
I shared this picture of my families morning juice/blend.  It helps us stay healthy.  It took a little bit for the kids to like it, but they like it now.  This is a great way to make sure you get all the vitamins/minerals that you need in your day.

When we prepare this blend we get all the ingredients and 16 gallon freezer bags out.  We fill each bag equally, label the bags, and then put them in the freezer.  That way when we are ready for blending in the morning we just grab the bag add a few things and blend.

Enjoy!!!

4 Tricks to a Healthier you ~De Kinsey

I have learned a few tricks about food and diet from my years as competing as a pro figure competitor, living in a rural area (a grocery store visit will never be less than an hour), having a nationally ranked power lifter as a husband, and feeding 3 small kids!!!!  I know being healthy and eating right is HARD and can be a pain sometimes.  Here are a few things I have found over the years that have helped me stay on track and keep it all together when it comes to my food.

1 – Plan your meals.  “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”  I don’t know who first said this famous quote, but it is so true.  In order to reach your goals you need to plan your meals out and know what you are going to eat and when.  If you don’t then most likely you will eat whatever is in your fridge or looks good at the time.  I don’t know about you but Snickers always look good to me.  The thing is Snickers won’t get me “Stage Ready” for a Bikini competition, and it won’t get you where you want to go either.  Unless you are carb back loading.  In that case… plan your snickers after your lift.  J

In my meal planning preparation I have created 8 weeks of meals for every season laid out in a spread sheet.  Whatever season it is, I look at my spread sheet and rotate the 8 weeks for that season.  In doing this I hope to not repeat my meals too often and make my meal planning as easy as possible.  Then I look at what I have going on for the week and adjust as necessary.  This not only saves me time on meal preparation, but it saves me a lot of money as well!!!  When I go to the grocery store I know exactly what I need and how much of it I need.

Picture
2 – Eat according to your schedule.  When you plan your meals look at what you are going to be doing around the day.  If you are about to workout then you need food that is going to have more carbohydrates in them than if you are going to sit at a desk.  If you are going to sit at a desk for a few hours have something that has less carbohydrate and higher protein.  Always remember, carbohydrates give you energy to move (Like a kid on a sugar high) but will move through your system faster and you will be hungry really quick.  Proteins feed your muscles and take longer to digest so you will be full longer.

This goes the same for your family.  If your kids have a soccer game, then feed them some carbohydrates before the game so they can have the energy to play well.  NO…. salads will not give them energy!!!  Also… you do not need to eat what your kids or husbands eat all the time.  If your kids have a game and you don’t… don’t eat the carbohydrates in the meal or make something else for you in order to reach your goals.

Picture
3 – Eat the rainbow.  Now, I don’t mean eat skittles for every meal.  I mean when planning your meals make sure you have a few different colors of fruit/vegetables/etc. in each meal.  Each color of vegetable, fruit, etc will bring a different nutrient to your body.  So… Eat the rainbow. Variety is KEY!

Picture
4 – Buy a gallon jug of water.  Most of us are dehydrated all of the time!!!  One trick that I follow is always having water on hand.  The easiest way I have found to do this is by buying a gallon jug of water and carrying it around.  Then every day fill up the jug and make sure before you go to bed the jug is empty.  (No, don’t flush the water down the toilet… actually drink it)  Yes, you will have to go pee like CRAZY for the first 3 days.  After 3 days your body will adjust and you will be back to visiting the potty on a regular basis.  You might feel a little silly carrying a jug of water around everywhere… but would you rather feel a little silly and look awesome or not look the way you want to look?!?!?

I hope these tips/tricks help you.  I know that they have helped me in reaching my goals and have helped me help my family reach their goals as well.

National Puzzle Day

Picture
The first jigsaw puzzle was created around 1760, when John Spilsbury, a British engraver and mapmaker, mounted a map on a sheet of wood that he then sawed around each individual country. Spilsbury used the product to aid in teaching geography. After catching on with the wider public, this remained the primary use of jigsaw puzzles until about 1820. By the early 20th century, magazines and newspapers found that they could increase their daily subscriptions by publishing puzzle contests. Puzzles may also include letters, numbers, shapes, and riddles.

Never Lose Money ~ Ed Kinsey

If you are a level-headed American, aware of the financial chaos going on in our country today you’re probably already saving for retirement.  You’ve been taking in your daily dose of Dave Ramsey, you’re reducing your debt, building that emergency fund, and investing in your 401K’s and IRA’s.  The question is, are you following the number one rule for a winning portfolio?

Picture
You see, back in junior high we were taught how to average numbers.  As a practice run to jog your memory, average this list of numbers: -12, -24, 27, 9.  If you recall, you add those number together and then divide the sum by 4(the number of figures to be added together).  You should come up with 0 as your answer.  Being a graduate of Finance from a high-ranking university I remembered this process quite well.  What I didn’t notice during school was how much of a lie averages really are.  I know they mentioned something about it in my statistics class but none of that really applied to me at the time.  It does now!  It applies to you too.  Let me illustrate.

Picture
Let’s suppose the year is 2001 and you just inherited $10,000 from your grandmother.  You put it into an investment account that followed the S&P 500 Index.    Using those same numbers above(Those are that folks experienced during that time, according to the S&P500 Index.  I rounded them a bit, to make this easy math, but those are real life numbers) after 4 years What is your average rate of return???  Zero!  You got it!  You’re a math genius!

Picture
The more important question now… How much money do you have in your account??? $9,258.  You averaged 0%  and still managed to lose $742, or almost 7.5%.   You may be a math genius, but in this hypothetical example, your investment skills need some work!.  Just kidding J

Picture
Losses kill your portfolio!  no matter how diligent you are in your saving, budgeting, and paying off of debt, you can’t afford losses and expect to get ahead.  This illustrates why Warren Buffet’s number one rule of investing is “Never Lose Money!”  This should be your number one money rule too; NEVER LOSE MONEY.

Picture
If you are breaking this rule of investing, please stop now.  If you’d like to learn how, email us at info@life1010.info and find out how millions of people are saying “no” to investment losses and saving for retirement with certainty and without market risk.

Five reasons why we should be Thankful ~Kelli Roethel

11/12/2014

Are you grateful? Do you take time to appreciate what you have?

Many people spend their whole life seeing their glass half empty instead of half full. When we have a "glass is half empty" mentality we are people who tend to get sick and be alone. Around this time of year we tend to focus on why we are grateful. Here are 5 reasons why we should do this throughout the whole year.

Picture
1.  Being thankful makes you a better friend:

We all have bad days and when we  go to our friend to complain, they always help us to see the good in the bad. Having a thankful outlook on life can help us overcome those obstacles we face and build meaningful friendships.

Picture

2.  Being thankful helps you sleep:

When you are focused on what you are thankful for right before bed it helps you relax and get a full night’s sleep. People who are stressed and worried tend to be the ones who cannot sleep. So count your blessings instead of sheep.

Picture
3.  Being thankful strengthens relationship:

We all should practice small acts of generosity in our relationships.  Showing people how thankful we are for them can make the other feel cared for, understood, and validated... basically feel loved.  Who doesn't want that?!?!?!?!

Picture
4.  Being thankful strengthens your immune system:

Grateful people -- those who perceive gratitude as a permanent trait rather than a temporary state of mind -- have an edge on the not-so-grateful when it comes to health, according to Emmons' research on gratitude. "Grateful people take better care of themselves and engage in more protective health behaviors like regular exercise, a healthy diet, regular physical examinations," Emmons tells WebMD.

Picture
5.  Being thankful benefits your heart:

Studies have shown that when people are thankful they have smoother and coherent heart rhythms and have a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.  See... When you are positive your heart knows it too!

These are some small examples of being thankful. Now, take the time out of every day to count your blessings. You will not only notice things in your life changing but the people around you changing too!

How to Help Your Kids Create Their Own Halloween Decorations - De Kinsey

10/24/2014

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year.  This year my kids are old enough to decorate so I decided to let them do the décor this year for Halloween.  Scary right?!?!?!  Well it is Halloween so no matter what the decorations turn out as we are good!    When all was said and done, some of the decorations did turned out a little gruesome but hey…  It’s Halloween and I love that they are being creative.

Steps:

1)      Sit down with your kids and help them navigate Pinterest for ideas.  We found a ton of cute ideas on Pinterest.  They also came up with a few good ideas on their own by looking at other pictures.

2)      Decide what your budget is going to be and talk with your kids about the budget.  It is important to help kids understand money and this is a great opportunity to do just that.

3)      Take your kids to Deseret Industries, Good Will, or the Salvation Army store.

4)      Help them pick out the items they want to decorate with that are within the set budget.

5)      When at home plan out where the decorations are going to go and what the steps are to complete each decoration.

6)      Help your kids create their decorations.  Sometimes this is just sitting back and watching them create them other times they might need a little more hands on help.

I am pretty proud of what my kiddos came up with... so of course I am going to show off their pictures.  Hopefully your kids can have some unique ideas come from the ideas my kids came up with.

Marry-Go-Round Ghosts

Picture
The Marry-Go-Round Ghosts are really popular this year.  I have seen a few people do this in their yards.  My kids wanted to add red spray paint to the ghosts to give them a more eerie feel.

How we created them:

Picture
1)  We got 4 hot dog sticks and hammered them in the grass.

2) Then we got 4 styrofoam balls and pushed them down on the handles of the hot dog sticks.

3)  We them grabbed some white bed sheets we grabbed from Deseret Industries and stapled them to the styrofoam balls.
Picture
4)  We then grabbed the sides of the sheets and stapled them together so it looks like the ghosts are holding hands.
Picture
5)  We then spray painted the white sheets.

HeadLess Dead Body

Picture

How we Created it:

1)  We got an old ski jump suit.
2) We filled the suit with crumbled up newspaper and straw at the head and hands. (We tied the legs so the newspaper wouldn't fall out.)
3) Then we layed the body down and spraypainted it red for blood.
4)  When the paint was dry we placed it where the kids wanted it to go.

Hanging Tree Ghost

Picture

How we created it:

1) We grabbed a white bed sheet, a stapler and an old bird house.
2) We hung the bird house in a tree.
3)  Then we stapled the sheet around the top of the bird house.  (No blood was added this time)

cemetery

Picture
I was going to be creative on this one and create our own tombstones... but it honestly was cheaper just to buy the Walmart tombstones and use those.

How We created this:

1) Buy tombstones at Walmart.
2) Figure out where you want to place them.
3) Dig holes for the tombstones to fit in.
4) Place rocks around the tombstones so they don't fall down or blow away.

Creepy Keep Out Sign

Picture
I would have been just fine with just the sign but my kids insisted on the dead dolls on the sign.

How we created this:

1) Grab a crate, black paint, red spray paint, white spray paint, and 3 dolls.
2) Paint the crate black
3) spray the dolls white
4) Spray the words "Keep Out" on the crate
5) Spray Red on the dolls for blood
6) when everything is dry place the crate where you want it and arrange the dolls where you want them.

importance of Annual consultation ~ Marc ROethel

10/21/2014

Picture
Here are some reasons why it is important to have an annual consultation with your financial and insurance advisor(s):

1-The landscape of what is available in the insurance and financial industries is constantly changing and evolving.  It is important that you are aware of the cutting edge products in the industry that could be a significant upgrade from what you have and save you in premium dollars.  You may have an older product that is underperforming severely compared to other potential options, but you leave it simply because you are unaware of other options!  It is your advisors responsibility to make you aware of the best options for you on a continual basis!

Picture
2-A consultation goes a long way in keeping you informed and educated in your knowledge of how your policies work and why they are important now and in the future.  This gives you great peace of mind in understanding how you are protected and what your retirement will look like!  Most of us need a refresher every now and again so that we at least have a basic understanding of the concepts of how things work.  For example, I am not an expert on mortgages and how they work (because I don’t do mortgages for a living), but gain great peace of mind just by understanding the basics of how my mortgage is set up.  However, a lot of what I have learned recently may become very foggy in the months to come, and I will likely need a refresher on my mortgage after a while also!

3-You need to know that your advisor is still heavily involved in the business and therefore up to speed with all the current best products in the industry.  Many advisors are semi-retired or lower their activity level in the business after a time, and consequently are not up to speed on the new products available in the industry that may be a better fit for their clients.  It is very easy for advisors to fall behind if they are not careful!
